Post 1: Research Topic

The question being researched is "how does fashion advertising in magazines affect body image of adolescent females?" Nowadays, fashion advertising is becoming increasingly alarming because of what the brands portray. Models are often extremely skinny and can give an audience a skewed view of beauty. Society is constantly surrounded with media and advertising can be extremely influential. It seems that adolescent girls are becoming obsessed with body image and developing eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia as a result of exposure to ultra-thin models in fashion advertisements. This research is intended to find out if there is a real connection between the advertisements and body image issues/eating disorders among young girls. The plan is to analyze 10 journal articles and examine the findings. This is an extremely important research question because society today is greatly affected by eating disorders and models are considerably skinnier than ever before. Another reason it is important is because eating disorders and body image issues are very dangerous and can lead to major health problems, both physically and mentally.
